The founding lineage of Brazilian Shorthair cats are Portuguese cats brought by the first sailors back in the 1500 a.d. to protect their food from rodents. It is interesting that this cat breed was developed without any special cares or rules. The characteristics that define this cat breed are the features and appearances of Brazilian street cats. World Cat Federation (WCF) approved the Brazilian Shorthair Cat as purebred cat in 1998.
They have a muscular body but at the same time very elegant. Their fur is short and close to the skin and is also available in many different patterns and colours (all colours are possible). Since they don’t have undercoat what is interesting is that even people who are allergic to cats suffer the least with this cat breed. These cats are much longer than taller and it is interesting that females have smaller heads than males. They are affectionate, playful, active cats, getting along well with family members and children, as soon as you teach your kids to respect them. The same applies for dogs, the introduction should take place under controlled environment and when they are kittens. They do not require special care, apart from the usual cat care: nails trimming, weekly brushing, teeth brushing, ear cleaning and annual vaccination. You better train them since kittens to accept these care activities, otherwise they likely are not going to accept them when adult.
Given that the Brazilian shorthair cat is recognized as a breed by international organizations, I give information about this cat breed. Though, I must submit the personal experience about this so called Brazilian cat. You can meet this cat all around the streets in the whole of Portugal. This cat is the domestic Portuguese cats or Iberian cat. Now how it came and is called Brazilian, I really never understood. I apologize in advance for the comment that has nothing to do with this beautiful creature, and of course nothing to do with my Brazilian friends. But I did not want to keep my own experience secret, as long as it is something more than obvious to people live or visit Portugal
