The Savannah cat is a cross between a domestic cat and a wild African cat back in 1980s. The African cat was a serval, a medium-sized cat with large ears. The Savannah cats have a muscular very strong long body with long legs. They can weigh up to 6-7kg. Their legs are very long, small head, long neck, and puffy noses and hooded eyes with markings starting from the corner to the sides of the nose to the whiskers. Their tails is quite sort with black rings and a black tip.
They are short-haired cats with spotted pattern. Other colors or patterns, though not accepted by the breed standards may include: rosette, marble, blue color, cinnamon etc.
The Savannah cats have this wild look but their temperament is not. On the contrary, they are very friendly and sociable, especially if they learn with lot of people since kittens. They are playful, loyal and affectionate. Their jumping ability is notable; they can jump about 2,5m. They can open doors and in general they have a dog-like attitude. They welcome you in the front door, follow you and participate in your activities and of course play with you and members of the family.
They get well along with other pets and with children without any problem, as soon as they are introduced gently and kids treat them with respect. The more you expose them to people and visitors when is kitten the more sociable your cat will be.
The Savannah cats require little grooming. Weekly brushing and usual grooming applying to all cats is all that a Savannah cat needs: ear cleaning, teeth brushing, nail trimming. Be sure to train them gently since kitten to accept this kind of care, otherwise you must trust this care to a veterinarian. Do not forget their annual vaccination.
