Tonkinese are a domestic cat breed, result of crossing Siamese and Burmese cats and they share a lot of the characteristics of their parents.
Tonkinese are medium-sized cats, muscular with slim legs and tail and oval paws. They have rounded slightly wedge-shaped head and almond-shaped eyes in blue, green or yellow-green color depending on the coat color.
Their coat is short with silky texture and their patterns might be: point, like the classic Siamese dark face, ears, legs and tail on cream or white base with blue eyes; the solid, similar to Burmese with only faintly visible point and gold or green eyes and the mink ones something between the other two kinds with a lighter base and lighter blue-green eyes.
Tonkinese cats are in general healthy but you should not forget their annual vaccination. They require little grooming including weekly brushing to remove dead hair, nail trimming, ear cleaning and teeth brushing.
The Tonkinese is a sociable, sweet, playful, loyal and communicative cat. Their personality is similar to this of the Siamese, so they are quite demanding cats, seeking attention. They get along well with other pets and children as soon as they are treated with respect and the introduction takes place when they are kittens.
Tonkinese cat is active, loving to follow you around, interact with you, communicate with you via vocalisms, play with you and finally jump in your lap to be petted. They hate to be left alone, so you need to spend some time with them, otherwise they will not be happy. If you have another one or a cat-friendly dog it would be great because they will be occupied more time with them and you do not need to spend so much time with them.
