The British longhair cats are indeed the British shorthair with longer coat. They are medium-sized cats with the same body and legs as the shorthair ones. They have large round eyes, short straight nose, short thick neck and short ears. Their coat’s color and patterns is maybe the richest variety from all cat breeds: black, blue, white, red, cream, chocolate, lilac and more. The same applies for their patterns: bicolor, smoke, color pointed, tabby, etc.
The British longhair cats have round heads and bright circular eyes. Their eyes color, depending on their coat color, varies and might be copper, deep gold, orange, blue.
The British longhair cats are calmed, easy going cats. They are playful when kittens, but when growing they prefer to stay calmed. They are affectionate and they are getting well with people and children. Though, they are quite independent; they prefer to choose when they will play or sit with you. So, you better watch out and teach your kids not to disturb them when they seem they do not want to be disturbed. They do not have problems in general with other pets and they can stay alone for hours, waiting for you.
The British longhair cats in general are known to be a healthy breed with no recorded genetic problems or health history; though, of course you should take care of their annual vaccination, necessary for all pets.
According their care, they need regular grooming, ideally every day. This would help keep their coat untangled, avoid spreading lots of hairs around home and prevent them from swallowing them something that could cause them serious health problems. One thing you should have in mind is that the British shorthair cat has tendency to obesity, so you must control their nutrition balanced.
