The Manx cat is a domestic breed originating on the Isle of Man with main characteristic the short tail. Manx are medium-sized cats with muscular, powerful body with broad chest and longer hind legs. Their head is rounded with long neck, small nose and large rounded eyes and they have an expressive face.
There are tailless Manx but also some with normal tails and others with very short ones. There are short haired and long-haired Manx, mentioned as Cymric by cat registries, both with double coat. The coat comes in different colors and patterns including solids, tabbies, tortoiseshells.Manx is an intelligent, affectionate, playful and highly active cat. They are well known for their dog-like personality. They are communicative and sociable but above all, they are excellent hunters. This cat will “clean” your house and the surrounding area or yard by rats. They were used a lot in the past by farmers to clean their area from rodents. Moreover, if you have a Manx at home, you certainly do not need a dog to guard, because this one will guard on your behalf, protecting by any threats, never hesitating to attack. Apart from these special abilities of the Manx cats, they are really amazing for any kind of family.
They get along with children in a great way and with other pets as well, as soon as they are treated with respect. They are not afraid waters and on contrary they love playing with it. They are curious and will manage to “investigate” your entire home, opening the doors and feeling comfortable. The Manx is also a loyal cat that will understand your commands and follow your instructions and wait for his time to jump in your lap.
The Manx cats require little grooming like weekly brushing or combing, especially for the long-haired ones. Nail trimming, teeth brushing, ear cleaning and annual vaccination are suggested.The Manx cats are recorded to face some health problems related to the breed, much less than in the past. Among them is arthritis, corneal dystrophy or the Manx syndrome. The last one reveals when a kittens is up to 4 month, easily recognized. It is advisable you have your cat tested well and get certain certificates, before adopting a Manx.
