Key Traits: Elegant, Feminine, & Always Polite
Cat blog star number four. It was the same crisp fall day that Grace and Bandit both came to be part of our expanding feline family. I had set off to one of the area Humane Society shelters to “Look” at an adorable black and white kitten named Bandit I spotted online. “Looking” quickly gave way to adoption once I met him. I was hesitant to take on a third cat, but I was completely smitten with the tiny fluff ball. I’m typically pretty responsible, and not prone to acting on impulse. Note I say typically, and this was not to be a typical day.
Buy One Get One Free?
As I explained in Bandit’s intro post, once I arrived at the shelter I noticed he was sharing his cage with another small kitten. Guess what? They turned out to be siblings. Guess what else? The staff member working at the shelter informed me that both of these adorable meows would need to be adopted into the same home. “They are a bonded pair,” she explained.
This is where things really got interesting. Luck was with me I was informed. It was buy one get one free cat days. Free? Cat? I resisted the urge to laugh out loud. There is nothing about owning a cat that goes along with the word free.
Turtle Sundae Anyone?
I took the card for the “free” kitten from the front of the cage to read the info. Not much there. color: white, sex: female, name: Turtle Sundae. Say what? The nice woman assisting me explained that this cat was white with a little bit of caramel color and some brown markings as well. Just like a turtle sundae. I saw the reasoning, but couldn’t quite get on board with this long and unusual name.
I agreed to adopt her along with her brother Bandit. (Whose name would remain unchanged.) However, this sweet and dainty little girl I decided was to be named Grace after the elegant Grace Kelly.
Grace is our Princess
She is impeccably clean and even tries to clean the our two slightly less well groomed male meows from time to time. When she moves about, the word I think of is smooth. Even her demure meow is more of a polite “mew”.
If she were a human child, she would want to wear frilly dresses every day, and carry around her baby dolls. If cats wore tiaras, I would be sure Grace (or sometimes Gracie) had the most regal one upon her perfectly groomed head.
Although Grace came to me in an unexpected way, and I never planned on making her part of our family, I am so glad she came our way. She is sweet, gentle and projects a special aura and elegance that is uniquely Grace.
