Like I’ve said in the blog numerous times — I strongly suggest a mix of natural remedies and a cat enzyme cleaner for getting rid of the cat spraying smell permanently in your home.
There’s books that teach you how to make your cat stop spraying through changing their behavior, such as Cat Spray Stop — and there’s cat enzyme cleaners I recommend for the strong smells.
In this blog post I’ll try to answer some of the most common questions regarding products for removing cat urine in your home. I hope you learn something new. Enjoy!
Do you need a special cat urine eliminator to remove the mess?
When cats mark their territory, they spray their cat urine on carpets as well as on your furniture. This is a natural behavior of your pet although not all cats do it. Mostly the urinate on other things instead of using the litter box when there are new things around with the smell of other cats. There are cases when it comes to a serious unnatural behavior of the pet. This is the case if the cat keeps on urinating over your furniture or other stuff over a certain period of time. The reason for this behavior can be a stressful environment, a disease or wrong treatment of the cat.

All cat owners probably know that that the extreme smell of cat urine can be unconfortable in your home. The cat pee has an unpleasant smell which needs to be removed with a special cat urine eliminator as fast as possible. Another reason to get rid of the stains and odor of cat urine is because they can cause health damage and excessive stress to you and your pet.
To avoid most of these cases before they even happen, you have to provide a litter box and put it in the right place. Put the litter box in the basement of your house or at any other silent place. Your kitten needs to have a calm atmosphere. Make sure to renew the litter at least every 3 days and wash the box with a natural cat urine remover, kittens like a good looking litter box! If you are running a multi pet household, you might need several litter boxes. Some pets don’t like to share their private place with others.
Why you should get a special cat urine cleaner
There are various cat urine cleaner products out there and it is often a hard decision which one to buy. To eliminate the stains, you need a special cat urine remover product. Don’t go for a regular carpet cleaner, a dog urine eliminator or anything else, it must be an enzyme cat urine cleaner. Cat pee has a much stronger smell and is more difficult to get rid off than that of dogs. That’s because of the difference in the chemical substance of the urine. Cat’s natural diet consist of more proteins than the diet of dogs. Within the decomposition of the proteins in the cat food, there are several substances being created like: uric acid, salts… These protein metabolism substances are the source for the bad smell and the damage on your furniture. That’s why extreme cat urine smells worse than dog piss, it’s the higher percentage of proteins in their food.
If you try to remove the mess with a regular cleaner in combination with water, you will experience that the odor gets even worse after a while. This is due to the uric acids being insoluble. These uric acids bond to any surface in your household and they get reactivated if getting in touch with water.
Why a home-made cat urine eliminator won’t cut it
Special eliminator and cat urine remover products contain bacteria and enzymes which react chemically with the acids and crystals. This way they can eliminate the odor completely. Keep in mind, that you want to choose a stronger stain remover for cats then you would for dogs. If you think about using “home-made” stain remover, then go for it and come back here once the bad smell appears again. These home-made cat urine remover won’t work. They will cover the smell for a while but they can not eliminate the odor completely. These home-made odor eliminator products don’t contain any enzymes in most cases. That’s why they are not able to eliminate the acids, they will only cover the smell for a certain time.
Conclusion

If you have an unsolved pet urine problem, you should act today. If you leave the problem untreated, the odor will get worse. Also it will become much more difficult to eliminate the odor and stains after a while. Did you know that kittens like to urinate where they have urinated before? Guess what will happen to the places with untreated urine problems… Also keep in mind that cats have a much more sensitive nose than humans have. So if you think you have eliminated the problem, the kitten might still recognize the odor and then uses this place again instead of the litter box. So all you can do it to get a professional cat urine cleaner with enzymes to eliminate the strains completely.
I will update this blog post in the future with a list of the best cat enzyme cleaners.
