Okay maybe just a tad of that as I struggled to come up with a good cat blog name, but mainly because I have four cats. Or, perhaps I should say four cats have me. Either way, I feel like I am ankle deep in cat hair . (Unless it’s Christmas and people are coming over. Then it’s more like top of the foot deep in cat hair.)
Meet the Meows
Who are these fluffs that allow me to hang out with them at the place I call home. I’ll be writing an in depth expose post about each one, but here’s the basic breakdown.
Lovey
This is the girl that got the whole cat craze started. When my son was about 6 or 7 years old, we stopped by our local Pet Smart one Saturday with the intention of picking up some new toys and supplies for our rabbits. (We had four of those too at one point.)
It was adopt a pet day, and there were cages with cats and dogs placed strategically throughout the store. My son fell hard for one particular grey tiger, and the rest is history. He named her Lovey because she “is loving and just wants to be loved.”
Here’s a photo of her with a very young Pickles who I will tell you about next.
Pickles
Yep. Pickles is really his name. Our second feline addition. So I explained that my son fell for Lovey. I liked her too, but also started browsing Pet Finder since I was already thinking of adopting a kitty. Bad idea. I promptly came across a super cute little fluff waiting to be adopted from our local Humane Society.
Once I went to see him, I knew he was coming home with us. (Along with Lovey who we picked up the same day at her foster home.)
Oh, and about the shall we say “unique” name, the staff at the shelter informed me that coming up with kitten names gets challenging after awhile. The litter that came in before this one ended up with Star Wars monikers like Yoda and Luke Sky walker. Pickles litter happened to be named after hamburger condiments. Ketchup, Mustard, Pickles and Relish. So Pickles it is.
Bandit
Fast forward about two years, and with no rational explanation, I wanted another cat. Found the spunky and adorable looking Bandit at another area Humane Society. (That’s him all grown up on the left) Tiny adorable kitten with a story that stole my heart. I’ll tell you all about it in an upcoming post.
Grace
When I arrived at the shelter to adopt Bandit, I discovered he had a sister named Turtle Sundae who shared the cage they called home. The staff member assisting me explained they would really prefer to adopt them out together. Luck was with me she went on, it was buy one get one free cat days. Brilliant promotion, but “free” is a word I already knew applies to no pet.
Anyways, called my husband, signed the papers, and left that day with two tiny kittens. Turtle Sundae was too hard to say on a regular basis. This dainty little girl was renamed after the legendary Grace Kelly. (She’s the white cat next to Bandit.)
Why Should I Read Your Cat Blog?
Hopefully I can entertain you while we explore all that is life with cats. After years of wonderful cat experiences (play time, love) and no so wonderful as well (hairballs and marking anyone?) I’ve been around the cat block a few times.
Check back in and you’ll find posts on serious stuff like cat health and feline nutrition. You can also count on lots of not so serious entries on my crazy day to day life sharing a home with four cats. If you’re not completely satisfied with my blog I will refund the full price of admission no questions asked… 🙂
